Employee engagement was low, and many apprenticeships were misaligned with the skill sets and aspirations of our people. Apprentices were often placed in programmes that set them up for failure by aiming too high too soon. At this point, the value of apprenticeships within the organisation wasn’t widely recognised, and existing programmes were not delivering the long-term growth we envisioned.

However, this also marked the start of a significant transformation.

In 2024, we recognised the need for a dedicated and strategic approach to developing talent. The solution? The creation of the Talent and Apprenticeship Development Team. This group was built to engage directly with leading training providers, align apprenticeship programmes with the real skills and ambitions of our employees, and build a clear pathway to success.

The Talent and Apprenticeship Team’s role has been pivotal in nurturing our talent and making apprenticeships a cornerstone of career development at The QHotels Collection. Thanks to their efforts, we now have a supportive and structured apprenticeship framework that guides our employees from day one, helping them thrive in meaningful, long-term roles.
